Six of Spades or Luck
of the Draw?
Mary Anne Costerella
didn't seem surprised when she found out I was a six of spades. I was the
right person to write this article about the wonders and knowledge inherent in a
deck of card she said. From the moment she started explaining its
mysteries, I was hooked.
When I was identified
as a six of spades and read about the card, the description of a six of spades
person, if I can't call it an epiphany, then it was certainly an eye opener.
The six of spades is
the card of fate according to Robert Camp's "Love Cards: What Your Birthday
Reveals about You & Your Personal Relationships", (Sourcebooks 1998) because it
is the strongest symbol of the Law of Cause and Effect.
"When our birth card is
a six, we can expect there to be 'fated' events at different times in out lives.
These are events that were set into motion by our actions or words in previous
lifetimes whose effects were set aside top be experienced later, when conditions
are right to create an equalizing of those effects. Some of these events
can be positive and helpful, while other may show us what it is like be on the
receiving end of some negative occurrence. It is true that we cannot
change events once they are set in motion, but there there are many events in
life over which we have tremendous responsibility, and our choices in this life
are always important in this regard. This is one of the major lessons for
the six of spades"
Creepy. Is it my
own free will or is it my destiny? Not only that but a spade also
symbolizes the winter season when "death and transformation reign supreme",
According to Mr. Camp's book "Destiny Cards".
"After the harvest,
Winter sets in and much of what was born in the Spring dies away. In the
Winter season of life, we prepare for and eventually experience death.
Health Concerns become more prominent, as well as our interest in our spiritual
life. Through the shadow of the gravedigger's spade is ever present in our
minds, so too, is the promise of a new spiritual life. This promise, like
a phoenix rising from the ashes, makes the winter suit, the suit of spades, the
most powerful suit."
At last, something a
little more encouraging as I fester over the "Ye shall reap what ye sow,"
message about the six of spades person.
I read more about being
a spade, which represents the least number of people in the world.
according to Ms. Costerella, most of the world's people are clubs.
"Spades does represent
the season of winter, but it also means that you are likely to cut down and
destroy what hinders the growth of the soul", she said.
In "Destiny Cards", Mr.
Camp wrote, "Spades are a more complicated suit in some ways. They
represent work and health on a basic, material level, but on a deeper level,
they represent spirituality and the condition of our 'inner fire'."
The next part is
sounding good, and I am convinced that yes, it is all about me. I read on.
"All of the traditional
Death Cards are Spades. Those born as Spade cards usually have a very strong
materialistic nature or a very spiritual nature, sometimes both. In any
case, they are very hard working people."
If that wasn't
validation at last, then nothing was. I closed the book, feeling somewhat
happy and more than relieved that, although sometimes feeling the cards were
stacked against me, at least I was a hard worker, and that was enough for me.
